Would you mind giving a small description of the programs you've mentioned?

Just fyi, another application out there that is similar to Tripwire is called, Fcheck. It's a perl-based GNU GPL'd file integrity checker that works on a variety of operating systems (Linux included of course).
Woops, forgot a link to it: http://www.geocities.com/fcheck2000/index.html
It has been around for some time now.

If, you decide to register, it only costs US$20 a year for the license. A great deal for those of us on a budget, and it's a kickass app. The best part of the A/V is what's called a heuristic scan. It scans all archived files, no matter what the file extension. I've beta tested it when it was called InnoculateIT PE, and it stopped cold several virii before it could kill my windoze box. Anyway, just thought that you should know.

Be careful with CA security software. I am forced to use some of it at work and would use other tools if the choice was mine. eTrust AV is OK BUT it finished very low in some recent AV bake off's.

I installed the free F-Prot command line on demand scanner the other day. It's very easy to install (an RPM) and equally easy to use. It even found a few nasty java scripts off /home/{username}/.java/
There is also a couple of addon frontend GUIs available for it called qtfprot and X-prot I think but I've not tried them.

I suspect they're most likely windows related, although they could be browser related and thus equally applicable to linux if you're running an older unpatched web browser. I didn't bother looking, just deleted them

Actually AVG's site is www.grisoft.com.
It should be also mentioned that AVG Anti Virus does not have free edition for linux (I didn't find).
That rpm file can also be found on AVG's site, but it seems to be meant for registered users as it asks for license number.

OK, we need replacement(s) for Tripwire, since they've gone from .org to .com...and they don't look cheap (I didn't bother getting a quote). We're pretty secure, what with ExecShield and SELinux on our boxen...change auditing would be icing on the cake.

Take a look in fedora extras for the tripwire package. The tripwire package splt some time ago. There is the commercial version available. However when I looked at that a couple of years ago it did not appear to offer a whole lot more than the freely available version. I think the big thing the commercial version of tripwire offered was consulting services to get it setup. At the time I was looking for some kind of automated setup process or scripts. It takes a fair amount of time to get tripwire tailored for each server and to make sure all important files are being monitored.
