Try installing in text mode....when done run:
Code:
system-config-display
and use the LCD or CTR generic drives according to your resolution flavor.

To install in text mode, put in your cd and boot from it. then type install text and press enter, when the install is done you can login and type system-config-display.

The gui uses the file you're editing, I think it auto-closes when an other program changes the xorg.conf (but I'm not sure on that)

Try using system-config-display to put your monitor in xorg.conf, assuming it is listed.

Bitrain,
Great, thanks for the support.
the problem is worser than the proposed solution,
already tried to start up in text mode, then the next ugly issue arises:
nForce ethernet driver (forcedeth) is requested.
verified the nvidia homepage and found a enormeous warning about linux together with a 56 page documentation, reading it now.
so i could not start up the system yet on my still empty linux disk.
getting tired,
but happy that you replied, however do not know it anymore for the moment since every step is a serious hurdle and i am afraid that the nvidia is a major blocking one.

Are you doing a network install? Maybe you can disable it (not a clue how, but I think it possible) or just skip that step?
I found a nForce driver for linux on their site, but it isn't the same as you said. The one I found was for when you have FC already installed.
