Cisco vpn slow on wired connection...

Hi Everyone...

I am Running FC3 with kernel 2.6.10-1.770, on a dell latitude d600 laptop. I have turned off ipv6 from both the firefox browser settings and the modprobe.conf file. When i use a wired connection (eth0) and run the cisco vpn client (4.6), my connection is really really slow (evolution and firefox take ages to connect and sometimes just timeout). But i can ping the servers which are in the vpn network without a problem. I dont have this issue when i use the wireless connection (eth1) and then use vpn.

The browser mostly sits there waiting for a response from the web server. I can ping the webserver and get a response, i can even telnet to the webserver address and port 80. I can do a traceroute to the webservers name and it does show me the route.

Can someone please let me know if this is a known issue and if there is a way to get this to work ?

Thanks in advance for your help with this.

-Rajeev.

I think i have finally worked around this issue (Sure it took me 3 weeks). There seems to be an issue with the MTU setting when the eth0 is getting reconfigured by the vpn client. after connecting i had to issue the following command as root.

ifconfig eth0 mtu 1465

Then my http and other connections work just fine.
P.S I stumbled upon this after seeing a post in redhat bugzilla. There was a mention that the issue might be fixed in cisco vpn 4.6.02.

good luck.

Just a quick note to say that I had to run 'ifconfig eth0 mtu 1500'. I tried 1465, but it didn't work. I got this info from the following link.
