FC3 locks on first boot after install

I've been running several versions of redhat and fedora through the years, but this is an interesting problem. I installed FC3 on a machine and on the first boot after install, my screen locks up w/ vertical RGB lines. I figured this was a video card issue so i booted into run mode 3 and changed some lines in my xorg.conf file. i took out the 800x600 option so it has to boot into 640x480. I saved and rebooted w/ no luck. So i booted into RM3 again and ran "startx". X started up just fine and ran w/ no problems. I ran the Screen Resolution program and changed the refresh rate to 60hz. I rebooted with no luck. I seems that the video card is working fine and x is starting up correctly, but it is not getting through the rest of the installation. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there more default display settings i can try? are there settings for the post install program that i should be editing?

Thanks!!

During installation at the monitor prompt try using the LCD or CRT generic drivers.... they are listed at the very top of the list.

Not sure about your installation, but i use the text install, and it auto detects the devices and doesn't give you an option to change them. I tried booting into the GUI install but it gave me the same vertical lines. Can i change the device AFTER i install fedora?

thanks,

I had a similar problem when I booted FC3 for the firsttime. The culprit was the program 'firstboot', I entered the Interactive boot sequence and selected 'n' when it asked me to start 'firstboot'. Give that a shot.

Thanks, i tried this. First off, this is kinda odd, but press "I" doesn't make it go into interactive mode. So i started playing around. in /etc/init.d there is a firstboot script. I removed this. Then i see there is a first boot shell in /usr/sbin, so i removed that. also, there is a config file in /etc/sysconfig/ that says FIRSTBOOT=NO

If it is starting up, i dont know how to turn it off. do u have any suggestions? I've never had this much trouble w/ an install before. i typically can fix this kinda sutff!

thanks
