I am still no able to play Doom3, due to this error. I can't find myself what's wrong and I really need your help. If anyone knows what I have to do in order to play Doom3 and fix this error, please just post here or send me mail or PM.

Are you running your video in hardware accelerated GL mode? You have to install the NVidia or ATI drivers to do that - just use Search and... well, you'll get lots of hits, so it'll take some digging though them.

I have already installed nVIdia drivers for my Graphic Proccessing Unit (nVidia 5700FX Ultra). I do not know how to test what video hardware mode I am running. Could you please tell me how to set OpenGL ?

When I come back home, I'll try doom3 +set sys_videoRam 512

Cheers,
Druid

[druid@localhost doom3]$ doom3 +set sys_videoRam 128

And here are my files:
[druid@localhost doom3]$ ls
base doomded.x86 kevinD.cfg License.txt version.info
doom3 doom.x86 libgcc_s.so.1 nelno.cfg
doom3-dedicated gamex86.so libstdc++.so.5 README

/base dir
[druid@localhost base]$ ls
af game00.pk4 guis jim_sp.cfg models script
binary.conf game01.pk4 james.cfg kevinD.cfg nelno.cfg sound
dds gamex86.dll jim.cfg maps pak005.pk4 strings
def gamex86.so jim_mp.cfg materials particles textures

(I tried to extract the files, but nothing happened)..

Any ideas?

are you sure the drivers are installed correctly? try putting "glxgears" into the console and see if that program runs

[druid@localhost ~]$ glxgears
5938 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1187.600 FPS
8052 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1610.400 FPS
8085 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1617.000 FPS
8087 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1617.400 FPS
8083 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1616.600 FPS
8081 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1616.200 FPS
8086 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1617.200 FPS
8087 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1617.400 FPS
8080 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1616.000 FPS
7737 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1547.400 FPS
8373 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1674.600 FPS
9046 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1809.200 FPS

A window with gears moving appeared while I type glxgears and then I closed it. So, OpenGL is not the problem, right ? What is the problem ?

Unknown command 'vid_restart'
idRenderSystem::Shutdown()
Sys_Error: Couldn't load default.cfg

I take a look at http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpo...05&postcount=9 because there it produces the same error as me. The solution is :

"You need to copy pak000.pk4, pak001.pk4, pak002.pk4, pak$
"pak004.pk4 from either your installation media or your h$
"${dir}/base before running the game."
"To play the game run:"
" doom3"

But I do not have pak001 and pak002 and 000

The only files is have are:
[druid@localhost base]$ ls
af game00.pk4 guis jim_sp.cfg models script
binary.conf game01.pk4 james.cfg kevinD.cfg nelno.cfg sound
dds gamex86.dll jim.cfg maps pak005.pk4 strings
def gamex86.so jim_mp.cfg materials particles textures

What the hell happens ? I downloaded Doom3 Demo, not the full game.

Re: Doom3 Demo Problem

go to the installation directory - in my case /usr/local/games/doom3/base and change the rwx permissions of the copied archives:

$ chmod 644 *.pk4

Now it should work
