amaroK doesn't include wma files to its collection

I can't figure out why amaroK doesn't include my wma files to its collection. It includes the ogg vorbis and mp3 files but refuses to do it with the wma ones. I've got all my audio files in a same place, with different folders to different bands and artists.
The more strange of all is that I CAN play wma files with it (after I have installed the amarok-xine engine). But playing the files without having them in amaroK media library is almost useless to me, since I have tons of these wma files.
Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks.

Marcos

Not that this is actually going to help your problem but I am curious are you able to play mp3's with the xine engine? Amarok locks up for me when I use the xine engine; in your case I would assume that Amarok simply is not capable of parsing wma files into its library. This little annoyance is not uncommon actually if it can work at all it might take a bit of cajolling. I took a look on the website and did not see any mention of wma. Have you tried the cvs build?

Yes, I can play mp3 files with the xine engine. I've installed it because it is the only way to play wma files (I guess) according to many different sources I researched. I've read somewhere it is possible to play wma with gstreamer engine, but I had no success with it. I can play wma using gstreamer when in xmms but not in amaroK.

Its probably not the only way, its probably the only way that actually works for audio players. Have you tried using the Akode engine? It requires kdebase and kdemultimedia [on my system anyway.] but I never had any issues with it.

I've never heard about this Akode engine. I'll give it a try.
Thanks.

Its a part of kdemultimedia itself its not available seperately [which sucks major as kdemultimedia has a way of installing a bunch of other useless stuff.] that is probably why you never heard of it. Hope it works for you, keep us posted.

I took it with kdemultimedia. But it apparently doesn't play wma files. I found an article that compares differents engines and it confirms its inability to play wma.

http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/index.php...ine_Comparison

Anyway, thanks for the tip.

I think that chart is lying about gstreamer. I wonder if the Amarok devs ever tried to play any video that was not an avi with anything using a gstreamer backend....Can you say hang/segfault.

Sorry it doesn't work wma is just one of those formats I guess, perhaps you should ask the devs if they could implement what you need in Amarok?
