I have been following instructions on this site on how to build an rpm for the kernel. I have been able to get usable kernels out of this process, but it seems to take an unusual amount of time to compile and package. More unusual is that I see modules being compiled that I would have no use for, and in fact, have removed support for in menuconfig.
Thus far it has been only a minor annoyance, merely adding an hour or two on to the process for the extra support and modules. Now it is a problem as I need to compile the kernel without VESA framebuffer support, yet each time it weasles its way back in.
Obviously, I am saving in menuconfig. I can verify it has been saved by opening menuconfig up again and seeing all the changes I have made. On running rpmbuild -bb --target=i686 ~/rpmbuild/SPECS/kernel-2.6.spec, the .config file is overwritten and all my changes are lost.
Does anyone know what might be happening here? Tell me what files and outputs would be relevant and I'll post them here to see what I'm doing wrong.
