Fedora Freezes

Fedora will freeze at seemingly random times. It only happens, however when I do something. I have had it happen when I click on a link in firefox, use a menu or interface in an application or the window manager, typing my password to log in, and other times. It happens with both GNOME and KDE. The application that does not have this problem is WoW with cedega. It ussually freezes within the first half hour of logging in. My mouse still moves but cant do anything, and is the only thing on my screen that moves. None of the keyboard shortcuts that Ive tried work. It stays this way untill I reset manually. I have XFree86 and the latest Nvidia driver, and FC3 with the latest released kernel. Any idea of where to start?

Where did you get that X installation? It says in the top
Quote:
XFree86 Version 4.4.0
Release Date: 29 February 2004
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.6
Build Operating System: Linux 2.4.18-14 i686 [ELF]
This seems not to be the official FDC 3 Xorg installation. And that might explain your problems.

Also, I've had this problem with the latest nvidia drivers.
Are you using 7129 or the 6-something one?

I installed XFree86 by following the instructions at the XFree website. Does the FC3 Xorg work just as well? Cedega said I should install XFree86. Is that only if you dont already have X installed?

It was unstable for me, you need to install 6629.
That fixed the issue

Thx! Everything works great now. I sure hope Nvidia fixes this problem, I can't imagine why Nvidia didnt see this bug, it makes using X with it nearly impossible!

Damn. It just froze again, although it has improved. When I installed it it said that I had rivafb, and that the driver would not function properly if it was running, but I didnt see it in the XFree config file (I haven't yet switched back to Xorg), Im not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I did reboot, and the installation removed the previous driver.
