Installation DVD

Hi
I would like to make installation DVD from my Fedora Core 1 CDs, but with one difference. I would like to recompile all packages for athlon first. (I know how to do recompiling part )

. So, first, how to make DVD, and second what do I have to modify for recompiled packages to work??

Why not download the DVD ISO? You can get it from the 'torrent here.

The DVD not only contains the contents of the 3 CDs but the source as well, so you can compile it all yourself from src rpms.

But that is not what I want. I want to have all the packages precompiled for athlon on that DVD, so when I'm installing again, I don't have to reinstall all packages with compiled ones.

the difference in the athlon and intel chips is small, and the performance gain you would get from recompiling the whole thing for an athlon would be hardly noticable. I have a atholn 2700, and lets face it, at any of the higher speeds youre not going to notice the difference between the AMD and intel chips when doing normal things. Unless you really wanna push your cpu with burnin software or something, its almost not worth the time and effort of recompiling everything for use on an athlon. If you want to precomplie them, go for it, but im just running the standard i386 package, and it runs fine.

Sorry, I was not online for some time.

Once again, this was not the question. I will try another aproach.
Forget about athlon for now.
What if I want to make my own installation DVD or CD of Fedora Core 1 with a difference so that KDE3.2.1 is installed automatically, and some RPMS frome update directory. I want to skip the step of preforming an update later.

If I could do that, maybe I could replace standard i386 packages of KDE for athlon ones also.

So my question is infact, Is there a file which dictates the names of RPMS to be installed, and how to edit it?

i got where youre coming from now. On the Fedora cd there is a file Fedora/RPMs (I think KDE is on the 3rd disc, but im not sure so check before you do anything) The RPMs folder is where you will want to stick the KDE 3.2.1 rpms. As for a file to modify to install these files, I dont know. There are a few places i would try, but as im in windows right now i cant open the files. On the disc there is a "trans" file, which might be it. Also, on Disc 1 there is a folder Fedora/Base which has some RPMs in it that look to me like they would do it. Again, i dont know as im in windows right now. The only thing about this is you need to completely decode the Iso image in able to modify it, and then recode it to burn it on a cd of DVD. I dont know of a good way to do either of these in windows or Linux. That brings me to my next question, are you currently running a version to linux and wish to modify the iso in linux or are you running windows? I dont know of a way to decode and reencode isos in either os, but im sure someone does. I hope this helped and good luck. Tell me if it works and how you did it, i would really like to know. Is it just like you can copy the content of 3 cds into one Folder and burn them on a dvd ? wouldn't that cause any problems at the boot sequence ? don't want to use torent stuff or maybe you know a ftp link where i can get the dvd image ? probably have to dowload it in linux, last time i tried to download sarge-debian-dvd image(3.7 GB) flashfxp coudn't continue at the size of 2 GB (ntfs disk)

i dont know if you can just burn the cd isos onto a dvd, i dont think so, but who knows. Heres the linke to download the dvd image, though i wouldnt recommend using redhats site, try to find a mirror.

this is the list of mirrors, and id pick the one closest to you, prolly one of the ones in germany. If not, the duke north american east server is fast, so you could try there. This is probably your best shot at a Fedora dvd download...

I only see the test 2 at torrent though... it might just be easier to download the three separate iso files. best of luck.
