I had a similar problem with the Canon i450 I installed here. Just try other drivers in the Canon file and you should find one that will work. I had to use BJC 8000 for mine to work properly. Some would work but the printing would be too light etc. Just keep trying and you should find one that will work for you.

Hello,

Before you post a question, try SEARCHING for an answer within this site. Look in this forum for the postings on Driver for Canon I850. There you will find an entire string of information. One posting in this thread has a link to a Canon Japan FTP site with many drivers for Linux.
Another possible source is Turboprint.
http://www.turboprint.de/english.html

Turbo print says it supports the ip1500 you could download the free version and try it. The site also has a feedback form for when they don't support a printer. It is well worth the effort to try.

Thumbs up Free drivers

I had the same problem until I found a very helpful article on the problem. It turns out someone has tweaked the Japanese drivers to make them work with the iP1500 and make rpm's.

You can download them here:

http://linux.cergynux.net/canon/bjfi....50-2.i386.rpm
http://linux.cergynux.net/canon/bjfi....50-2.i386.rpm
http://linux.cergynux.net/canon/bjfi....50-2.i386.rpm

I decided to make a README file and script to automate the install process. It was made on Fedora Core 4 so there may be a little tweaking necessary for other distros but I have included reference to the original article which will contain the necessary information to do that.

Please let me know how it works out for you. If you would like to use it. I'll attach it here.
