soundcard issues with inspiron 5100 w/ fc3

Hi everyone, I am running FC3 on my inspiron 5100 2.4G P4. When I do a soundcard test, it says that it detects an Intel ... AC'97 sound card, and I can hear the audio test fine.

However, when I reboot and relogin to KDE, I can't play any sound. After I do another soundcard and audio test, then I can play mp3's and audio cd's again.

Any ideas? Is this just a setting or something that gets wiped when I logout?
