Oracle cluster failover setup

Anybody have any experience in setting up an Oracle failover between two servers running AS2.1 using Redhat Cluster Manager? I'm really not having much luck with this. I'm mostly interested in seeing other peoples cluster scripts and how their service is setup.

Redhat cluster manager has been more of a pain for us than it has been useful. We're not just using Oracle however, we're running Oracle 9iAS, which is a piece of crap product anyway. We've had problems with the cluster service thinking the disks were gone when they really weren't, sending reboot signals to systems when they didn't need to be rebooted, and general bad behaviour.

The main issue here is that you're not actually setting up a "cluster" by using RHAS cluster service. You're simply setting up an automatic failover to a system which is configured identically to the first, which I would generally call an active/passive db setup. You're probably better off manually kicking over the DB if something blows up on your first system. That, or run a real cluster and use RAC.

Just my $.02.

We're using like Oracle 8. I don't think they have RAC for that. Everntually, I believe we are supposed to go to 10g, but I have to make this work in the meantime. It sucks. I have to get it to failover and make absolutely sure that it doesn't kick off oracle on both machines or two instances of oracle on one machine.
