Question HAL daemon

Who is HAL and what is this daemon doing on my system?
Can it safely be removed or disabled?

Thanks.

Thanks for the link.

It appears that this relates to my other problem: http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47193

Any idea how to fix it?

Hmm, I don't have any kind of really clinical authority here, but if you attempt to use /sbin/fuser on the device on the file system; eg /dev/dvd is the object on the filesystem that corresponds to the DVD drive on your machine.

Thanks, the main issue appears to have been with one of my USB ports. I've got things working now with the haldaemon still running.
