internet browser media issues

i know there are a lot of issues with sound in fedora, but i have most applications working perfectly fine. the problem occurs when i try and run a media file inside of an internet browser; i ahve tried this with the latest builds of firefox, galeon, and opera. in each occasion i can get no sound, but the visual aspect proceeds normally. this goes for both the mplayer plugins and flash. on a related note, when i run soundcard detection, it shows two soundcards; the built-in one from my motherboard and the one i am using. it automatically chooses too use the built in card, but i have nothing plugged into that. however, i can still play music via xmms and xine quite easily. when i try and switch the primary audio device to the card i am using, it never saves the changes... i have a p4 2.8ghz 512ddr box with a 5880 pci soundblaster card. help!

Disable the onboard sound in your motherboards BIOS.
