    ATI IXP150 ac'97 sound

Howdy, I'm fairly new to linux, but I've got lots of time in on UNIX. Of course I've never had to do anything other than move files around and create and delete users. I've recently purchased a new laptop (Acer Travelmate 2700 - Same board as the 2200 if anybody has either) and I'm having some issues with the sound card. the card is detected properly, but when I try to adjust the volume it says there is no mixer present.

Thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to listeing to my music some day.

Ah, the AC97 sound problem... Unfortunately, that's the most discussed sound problem in FC3. Rather than give you some selected discussions and their solutions, I'll just link the results of the forum's 'search' when I put in 'AC97':http://fedoraforum.org/forum/search.php?searchid=647264

sucess! I discovered that to correct the problem all that is required is to download and install the alsaconf rpm from the alsa site, and choose "Dummy Sound Card" and cnfigure no other options. "poof" my music came through VERY loud and VERY clear.

Thanks for all the usefull info and great things to try.

    looks like this crashed..
so I installed the newest version of alsa and tried, looks like all is well
note: I had sucess with a realtek driver as well
