Gaming section?

I was just wondering if we could get a dedicated gaming section for us gamers here at fedoraforums. I know this fits under the software section, but, if there was enough interest in games on FC it may benefit to have such a forum. The poll is for what users think, post replies aswell.

for sure, I'm new to linux and just got my ATI drivers working. I have UT 2004 installed, and now I'm craving more, I'd love to see a dedicated section to games

I'm all for it.. if gaming support and ports keeps on coming to linux I'll be able to wipe away my windoze partions. (since I use it them gaming and mulitimedia projects)

Speaking ex-officio, I'd say "No." Why? Because there are already quite a few Linux-specific game sites, some of which are quite large and active. Go join there. The more numbers a game manufacturer sees on those sites, the more likely they'll start taking an interest in doing what Id and others have done - multi-platform releases. If you (we) start another little corner of the Linux world, those additional voices will not be heard.

I fully agree with the strenght in numbers argument and try to support Linux gaming to it's fullest. I registered on many sites and have many game How-to's (commercial). I try to support commercial over non-commercial more as I would like to see the same games come out for Linux as for windows.

Maybe I should have been more clear on the idea in a way. I was thinking of the gaming section for people that are having problems specific to the FC distro. There are many questions and answers around the net for Linux and gaming but each distro does seem to have different issues with games. Especially some of the older Loki games now. Gentoo has a games forums and when they find a game that breaks they work on getting it fixed for there distro. That's kind of how I was thinking this one would be like. If a game was working and something that got updated broke a working game we would have a community to figure out what the problem was. Plus, for people that are hard core linux gamers we could give out advice as best we could for those that were having small issues with some of the games.

Basically, FC is one of the larger distro's. many people come to linux and this is one of the first distro's that is tried usually. I think having a good all around support area like there is here on fedora forums is great but we can't forget the one reason why most people still leave a windows partition on there drive. Games.........

To be honest, I remember about maybe 3-4 threads about FC-specific games problems. Maybe 10. So, not a thread is needed, but more posts about this issue, so thee will be need for it.

Where do you get this? Do you have actual statistics? I'm not trying to be nasty, but don't make assertions unless you have the facts to back them up - and I would doubt that you have those facts, mostly because there's no reliable way to tell which is the "largest distro."

And like ilja said, the vast majority of "gaming issues" posted here are not related to the games themselves, but rather to graphics issues or the Wine/Cedega packages, which are also not necessarily Fedora-specific. I don't think I've seen one post (granted, I haven't read each and every one) that any issue was directly related to FC. Each and every game-specific post can either be treated as a software issue or a hardware issue. That makes more sense to me.

Additionally, comparing the Gentoo foums to FedoraForum is an invalid comparison: their forums are part of their active development process, while these are not directly related to the FC development process, which does not include games. (Plus, Gentoo is just plain strange... )

I also struggle to see the need for such a forum. I'm also a bit miffed about the inclusion of a poll with this suggestion.
