This is kind of a general linux question rather than a Fedora question, but here it goes:
I use Fedora Core 3 and Debian 3.1on my desktop, and Gentoo 2004.3 on my laptop, and I like each distrubition and use them all for different reasons, but I am really annoyed because on the other distros there is no program to set preferred applications like in Fedora. I use Mozilla thunderbird for e-mail and firefox for my browser, but I don't know how to set each as the default applications the nerd way, so when I click on an url in an e-mail, by browser windows won't open, etc...
Now, I know the setting is probably in a config file somewhere, but I don't know if thats going to be the same for my other 2 distros, or which file it is under Fedora.
How does that Preffered Applications program work, so I can figure out to configure the settings on other distros manually?
