f-spot?
has anybody been able to get f-spot running on FC3? I've been trying for 2 days now and I can't seem to be able to get it running. I've done some searches on this forum and haven't been able to fidn anything. f-spot depends on a ton of stuff such as mono. (???) I've tried isntalling that and still no go. Has anybody get this working through yum repos?
thanks

ok.. I somehow got it compiled and installed after installing endless packages throughout the day.. oof!
ok so now when I type: f-spot from a terminal I'm getting:
Code:
** (/usr/local/lib/f-spot/f-spot.exe:31966): WARNING **: Could not find assembly gnome-sharp, references from /usr/local/lib/f-spot/f-spot.exe (assemblyref_index=5)
Major/Minor: 1,0
Build: 0,0
Token: 35e10195dab3c99f
System error: No such file or directory
cannot open assembly /usr/local/lib/f-spot/f-spot.exe
I tried doing a google search on parts of that error message and I can't find anything that can help me.
Help!

f-spot requires the mono stuff, which isn't straight forward to install in Fedora Core.
What I did was that I got the Fedora Core 2 mono packages from www.go-mono.com and I installed those. Once I had them installed, I could compile my mono-application of choice (not f-spot, but the music player muine). It's a bit dirty and there might be some hoops in the installation of mono and the compiling, but once you have mono and gtk-sharp installed, if you run into trouble check with the f-spot developers on irc.gimp.org #mono

f-spot didn't work for me either (I had installed it through yum). I didn't know it needed mono but I already had the mono stuff installed through yum. I tried a few things and gave up on it. Now mono prevents me to update a couple of packages through yum. I may have to uninstall it.

unbelievable how much a pain in the @$$ this is to installed.. I've tried everything known to man and I still can't get it working. I keep on getting some other stupid errors which I can't find anywhere on the web. I even tried using apt-get yesterday (for the first time) and it totally hosed my system. I have to re-install. It totally wiped out gnome, X and all my X applications (go figure). I wasn't a happy camper last night.
Does anybody know of an easy way to make this thing work or know something else I can use? I need something to replace my Windoze Adobe Photoshop Elements/Album with card reader support.

The f-spot from dag is missing a dependency. Also install "mono-sqlite".

If you install the sqlite-devel package f-spot will start working like a champ.
The problem is explained in this Bugzilla entry: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=156377. The short version (if I'm understanding this correctly) is there is a symlink missing. I tried to follow the instructions in the Bugzilla info to create the link but I was never successful.
If you can figure it out, please post back. Otherwise, install the devel package (I used Synaptic and Dag's repo) and you'll be good to go.

Thanks, Bob. Finally it works. I am not quite sure about what they are talking in Bugzilla. Anyway, sqlite-devel only has 320K, not a big problem of space hogging.
Furthermore, as a note for yum users, besides mono-data-sqlite, mono-data and mono-web are also required to make f-spot work.
