New Package Posting

Maybe we should contact maintainers of Dag, freshrpms, etc... rpm repositories and invite them to post when they release new/updated rpm packages, and what they are.

It would be really nice if this could be automated, perhaps with the syndication power of RSS. For example, Sourceforge maintains an RSS feed of recent file releases (please limit usage to once per half hour to reduce the load on their servers)

Unfortunately, I don't know of a Fedora repository who maintains an RSS feed, or even if it could be easily integrated into the forums. But it would be nice.

Actually, both Fedora.us and rpm.livna.org offers rss feeds. Fedoranews.org has a rss feed of the official updates. A combination of these would be really nice.

I do wonder whether thats really our responsibility. And whether or not such an RSS page, should be placed in a static location.

Perhaps it could go on the front page. Is the front page configurable? If so, people could add it or remove it as they desired.

We could use the code made available at fedoranews and fedora people to stream the feeds from our front page could we not?

http://fedora.linux.duke.edu/fedorapeople/rss20.xml
http://fedoranews.org/rss/fedora-updates.xml

Don't know much about RSS (yet) so feel free to tell me if this can't be implemented here.

RSS is just XML, and there are a lot of XML-parsing tools for the various scripting languages. I'm nearly certain that there's even an RSS-specific parser for PHP. Whether or not it's technically possible is up to Tux, though. :-)

Thanks Ava.., that made it a lot clearer than what I was perceiving it as.
Well, I know tux is certainly capable. We'll ust have to see whether he decides this is a good idea or not.
