Help booting to FC2 - Gnome

I have been running FC2 quite happily for several months, dual booting with XP. Yesterday, with no real rhyme or reason, I get to the localhost login prompt, at which point I then get a cycling blank screen, returning to localhost login prompt, repeatedly.

I've tried the rescue disk to no avail, short of re-installing I don't know what else to do....any ideas?

Re-installed from scratch, couldn't even work from a shell provided from the rescue disk. :-(

On the plus side, FC2 installs faster than XP !!
