    "Input Signal Out Of Range"

    Hello
I'm a newbie to Fedora, and Linux in general. I've been looking to use Fedora to dual-boot along side Windows. I've been searching up things about getting this fixed, but it all turns up with a xorg.conf thing that I have no idea what it is. Can anyone help me fix out the Input Signal Out of Range error that happens after I hit "Start Fedora-Workstation-Live 24"? It would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea about any of this stuff

    thanks

    Specs:
    GFX Card: GTX 1060 6gb
    Monitor(s): Pavilion27xi (DVI) (primary), 27MP33 (HDMI)
    CPU: X5650 Intel
    RAM: 12gb ddr3

    Hi RainbowFedora

The 'Input Signal Out of Range error' usually means that your Video Card is putting out a signal that is out of range of your Monitor. I see that you have an Nvidia based Video card, if I am not mistaken, and as such they may need special drivers to work properly. I also see that you have two monitors. Are you using both at the same time?
I have not personaly had any experience with these high end Video Cards but some one else here may be able to help.

PS Welcome to the Fedora Forum
    Robert :)

    Hey there rob,

I have tried using the monitors alone (both) and together, and none of those seem to work. I don't know how to install the drivers for a new install, since I have never used any Linux Distros before. Using a high end video card shouldn't be much different then a low end nVidia card, or a high/low end AMD card I reckon. Do you have any help possibly, even if it doesn't work?

    Thanks

    Hi RainbowFedora
OK. First let me get some information from you on your specifics.
1.0 Are you using a DVD or USB when trying to boot F24?
2.0 Do you have any other OS on the computer? If so which one?
3.0 Have you ever had an Operating System working on this computer, recently?
4.0 Have you tried to boot any other OS Live on this computer?
5.0 If not try to download 'systemrescuecd' from
    https://www.system-rescue-cd.org/Sys...cueCd_Homepage
and see if it will boot OK.
6.0 Report back here after you see what happens with 'systemrescuecd' .

    Hi RainbowFedora
A couple of follow up questions. Because you have Win 10 on your Desktop unit, does it have any issues with Video? Your BIOS/Firmware is most definitely UEFI/Secure Boot and I assume that they are both turned on. Is your unit a self-built unit or a Brand Name? Thanks, I have to go out for awhile but will check back when I get home.

    Hey there,
My Win 10 does not have any problems with video. My BiOS is not UEFI for sure, as I'm pretty sure 2010 computers don't have it. Its a brand name workstation (hp Z600).

    Hi RainbowFedora

Because you are using a Live F24 I am not sure if you can get to a usable screen, to make any changes to the settings per se. I was trying to get some idea of whether your Video Card is supported or not by the Nouveau Drivers and in fact it is. See https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/CodeNames/#NV130 .
It is unusual that the DVD booted into the selection screen and not allow you to boot the live image. I looked in the latest .iso 'Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-24-1.2.iso' and it initially boots using the 'grub' approach, which is standard.
If you are connected Monitor to Video Card with HDMI, please change that to DVI or VGA, just for a test. Try to reboot the DVD and see if there is any change. I am assuming that you got to a Splash Screen but maybe I should not have. Did you get to a splash screen where the selections were
    1 Boot the Live Iso
2 Test the media and boot the Live Iso
    3 Troubleshooting.
If you are able to get to the Splash Screen, run using Troubleshooting, and see what happens.

Re: "Input Signal Out Of Range"

Hi guys. I am having the same issue. Here are some bullet points:
    • My GPU is a GTX1060 as well
    • I have only tried DVI
    • The DVI output on the GTX1060 is DVI-D (Digital only!)
    • I have tried other linux distro live isos (kali, mint) and get the same monitor error
    • I tried the troubleshooting and selected alternate graphics or whatever
    • I tried custom boot settings: gpu=ask (changed res in text but still broke after)
    • All distros tried on a usb using yumi

downloading the xfce spin and the 25 beta. will report in with results.

    Hi logboy
It is looking more like the GTX1060 is having issues with several Distros. As such I would expect that the support that I mentioned in one of my prior posts is NOT really working. You should file a bug on the nouveau site at https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Bugs/ to see if someone can provide any additional support. I attach a picture of the page where I found that the standard 'nouveau' driver shows their support for the GTX1060. I would have assumed that you could at least have run the installer

Tried both and still no dice.
    • tried: xrandr --output DVI-I-1 --set 'scaling mode' None

ordered a display port cable. maybe that will fix it?

edit: same problem with display port
