FC3 Freezes on reboot

I just installed FC3 and when I try to start the system up it freezes on the "network support" message. Upon freezing the screen also becomes distorted (colour and lines). I've tried reinstalling, I have a dial up connection, I don't know what could be causing the problem, it doesn't load the login screen.

you wouldn't happen to be using a conexant or other winmodem would you???

I'm not sure.. what might those be.... I have an intel PCI modem...

In the details section the last thing that displays is

Starting HAL daemon: [OK]

at this point it freezes and nothing else shows up.
At the top of the screen it says Starting Red Hat Network Support
