Can't access file >2Gbyte via Apache or pureftpd

Hi all and thanks for reading

I'm using fedora core 2 with ext3 FS, 80 gbyte Ide disk , 2 gigs of ram..
I have downloaded fedora core 3 dvd version using ncftp and I can see
the file on disk with no problem...
However, if I try to see the file either via apache 2.0.51 or ftp client remotely
the file is not listed.
It is not a permissions issue..
If I do a cp from source_DVD.iso file to e.g. ttt.tmp I can see
ttt.tmp both by ftp and http..
The moment the file reaches 2 Gbyte it dissapears..
(it takes about a minute to copy 2.4 gbytes..)
ftpd used is pureftpd...

Any ideas?
