SATA drives no longer hotswap in F23?

I used to make backups by hotplugging sata hardddrives, then execute a script to mount and do the backup, then unmount and remove the drive.

It has been a while since I made the last backup (i know...) and I recently upgraded F21->F22->F23 and I can no longer hotplug sata drives.

When I plug it in, it is not listed with "lshw -class disk" until I reboot.
When I remove it, it is still listed until next reboot.

I have set my system to AHCI and the sata ports to "removable" in BIOS.

It used to work just fine for many years, but now it stopped working.
What has changed in Fedora and can I somehow get the hotplug functionality back?

    Thanks.

    EDIT:
    Found these errors in dmesg.
Problem seems to be ACPI related, as if the kernel does not get any notification of SATA (dis)connects. After some googling decided to update bios, but that did not change anything. Mainboard is MSI B75MA-P45

Let me guess ... American Megatrends (AMI) BIOS, and/or a Marvell 88SE9172 GSATA/eSATA/SATA chip?

Ok. That's one more bit of evidence, and it narrows the field a bit.

It seems there is a regression that is peculiar to the AMI BIOS. Please file a bug report on this issue. The "offending" system to list is the kernel itself.

I forgot to mention, I am running a legacy booted PAE kernel. (4.4.8-300.fc23.i686+PAE) on a headless server without graphical desktop.

To test a 64bit kernel, I booted Fedora-Live-Cinnamon-x86_64-23-10.iso from UEFI/USB key and then the errors also appeared, but the SATA hotplug worked fine!

My conclusion is that the errors are a due to a BIOS quirk and are not the cause of the hotplug issue.

I have been updating my server continuously, with only one or two fresh installations since the birth of Fedora Linux. Perhaps this caused some issues, like some new required system daemon not running or a new default config option that I am missing? I am not sure if a kernel bug report is still warranted now.

Since I recently got a new SSD for my server, I have decided to create a fresh install with UEFI booted x64 kernel. That should do the trick I guess.
