Fedora Core 3 Hostname Error (Windows cannot ping 'hostname')

I've got a problem with my hostname (I think). I've set my hostname to "netserv" and when I try to ping it from my Windows XP machine, XP tells me that it "could not find the host netserv." I think this may also be the reason for the DNS not working how it should be. Could anyone point me in the right direction? I'm new to linux in general, and need a good solid explanation of what is going on.

i asume what you want is a netbios (windows network) name for your linux box, for that you have to set up samba

netbios is the name for the windows network, that what you see when you browse network places. or type net view in console

samba is the tool for linux to work with netbios. fedora should have samba already installed. if not then install samba using the cds or using yum (yum install samba)
