    Question What nvidia install method works with kernel version 4.1.8-200.fc22.x86_64?

    Hi guys, I have the nvidia card gforce GTX 750 and I would like to know what install method that works with the kernel version 4.1.8-200.fc22.x86_64.

    After a bit of research I think this will work:-

    1 - Get rpmfusion repository ready with free and non-free.
    2 - dnf install kernel-devel kernel-headers gcc dkms acpid
    3 - dnf install akmod-nvidia.x86_64 gcc-c++ vdpauinfo libva-vdpau-driver libva-utils xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686
    4 - reboot.

    I found this link also http://www.if-not-true-then-false.co...-nvidia-guide/

    Note: Not sure which will work in my case. Also, I heard that the rpmfusion dont have the latest drivers, is it true? also the link I provided will it work in my case with this version of the kernel that I have?

    Please advice me. And thank you.

    Re: What nvidia install method works with kernel version 4.1.8-200.fc22.x86_64?

    All proprietary Nvidia drivers come from Nvidia. The difference is in how they are packaged.

    I've used both approaches and they both worked. I've found the Nvidia howto at rpmfusion to be reliable and accurate.

    I can't tell you if there are any issues with that specific kernel version regarding the 750 card.

    The drivers at rpmfusion are packaged for Fedora, as rpm's, while the instructions at if-not-true-then-false use the unpackaged driver from Nvidia. You can check the Nvidia site to determine the current driver available for the 750; I doubt it is still the driver used in that post.

    Proprietary driver modules need to be rebuilt after each kernel update. If not, the machine almost certainly will reboot to a black screen. Drivers installed via either method should do that automatically, although with different methods.

    As far as I know, no drivers from Nvidia work at the moment with the version of Xorg used in the Fedora 23 pre-release builds. That's not a kernel issue.

    Whatever method you use, you'll need to know how to cleanly remove all the pieces if something does go wrong and you need to install another driver.

    I have a 750ti and have found that any driver from the 346 series forward has worked here when I installed it. You can read about the changes made in each new driver release at the Nvidia site. My impression is that they are typically bug fixes and fixes targeting problems with specific Windows games.

    I don't have a real need to use a proprietary driver so I usually do not. I've found that's a more trouble-free way to go.
