F22: GDM login screen on multiple monitors

Hi folks, long time no see.

Upgraded to F22 yesterday and started going through my usual setup tweaks (mono font size, multiple monitor layout etc). One thing that is now evading me is the monitor layout in GDM.

Previously this was a case of copying a working monitors.xml file from a user's config into /var/lib/gdm/.config. This is no longer working - I guess due to GDM switching to Wayland?

So - does anyone know the new black magic method to configure the layout of monitors for GDM? My layout isn't complex; just a laptop monitor with a 24" monitor positioned above it. But the default layout is for the monitor to be on the right of the laptop display, resulting in confusion as to how to get the mouse pointer back to the main screen for some users (wife).

Not the biggest issue I know, but it's one of these grains of sand in Fedora that keeps niggling away at me. I'll raise a bugzilla to provide some method of writing a GDM screen config from an Admin user's display settings. Would be useful to be able to do stuff like this without resorting to command line.

    Cheers

    Duncan

It's the login screen using Wayland. You can solve this by either:

    - Log into GNOME on Wayland, do the monitor arrangement configuration, and do the monitors.xml copy again (Wayland gives monitors different names it seems, so the xml should now have configuration details for both X.Org and Wayland screens).

    - Disable Wayland:
    Code:
    pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY gedit '/etc/gdm/custom.conf'
    (uncomment the WaylandEnabled line, save)

Yup - knew I could disable Wayland for GDM (should have said in initial post), but I really prefer running OS's in as native a configuration as possible.

Didn't know I could log into Gnome on Wayland and then set up my displays and use that monitors.xml in the gdm folder - cheers. Have done exactly that. Interestingly, now I'm logged back into "normal" Gnome (not Wayland), the Wayland monitors.xml file still works for me. Shame this little loop wasn't closed.

I raised a Bugzilla RFE (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1225835) to request a method for allowing Administrator users to be able to write their monitor config to the GDM config files from within the Settings > Displays screen.

    Thanks for the help,

    D

I tried to do the first method and no monitors.xml file is created where I can find it. Searching for the file also turns up nothing as well. This is on a recently upgraded F21->F22 system. I was able to change the positioning of the monitors and layout but no file seems to have been created.
