    Nvidia driver don't boot with kernel-3.17.0-301.fc21.x86_64

    Today there is an update to kernel-3.17.0-301.fc21.x86_64, but it don't boot with nvidia driver.
    kernel-3.17.0-301.fc21.x86_64 is not a debugging kernel, and in the log I have that :

    It's working fine for me with the latest nvidia driver.
    Make sure you've built the kernel module and that it is able to load.

    What driver you use ?
    I have the 343.22-1, with akmod.

    I have no problem with kernel 3.17.0-300.fc21 (work fine with nvidia driver 343.22-1), just with 3.17.0-301.fc21.
    You test with the 3.17.0-301.fc21 ?

    Re: Nvidia driver don't boot with kernel-3.17.0-301.fc21.x86_64

    I have the nvidia.ko in right place (/usr/lib/modules/3.16.3-302.fc21.x86_64/extra/nvidia), but it seem not loaded.

    Where is the problem ?

    Re: Nvidia driver don't boot with kernel-3.17.0-301.fc21.x86_64

    I build my own kernels and am on 3.17.1 now, all still works fine.

    /usr/lib/modules/3.16.3-302.fc21.x86_64/extra/nvidia is quite obviously *NOT*
    the right place for the 3.17.0 kernel. So, do you actually have a built module for
    the new kernel?

    Re: Nvidia driver don't boot with kernel-3.17.0-301.fc21.x86_64

    First try to see if there was a fix for it:
    Code:
    # yum update
    After that check the OS release against the kernel installed and the nvidia modules to see if they all match.

    Code:
    $ uname -r;rpm -qa *nvidia* *kernel* | sort
    You may say, that you already did that but remember people miss things, we all get distracted from time to time, that is why have more eyeballs on the information and that is why I am asking for you to post it here so others can see it.

    As stated elsewhere also.

    http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=280750 (This is the thread for finding help for the proprietary Nvidia drivers but it will ask you the same info and a bit more)

    Code:
    rpm -qa *nvidia* *kernel* | sort;uname -r;lsmod | egrep -i "nvidia|nouveau";cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf;
    lspci | egrep -i vga

    Only then start going to the esoteric.
    Code:
    [ 20.682] (EE) NVIDIA: system's kernel log for additional error messages and
    I think that part is telling you to look into dmesg.

    Code:
    $ dmesg

    or

    $ journalctl -klax --no-pager (it doesn't work here for some reason)

    The device logs?
    Code:
    $ lspci -vnnk

    01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation GF116 [GeForce GTX 550 Ti] [10de:1244] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

    Re: Nvidia driver don't boot with kernel-3.17.0-301.fc21.x86_64

    I had a similar problem today, but I opened a new teminal, logged in as root, and ran a forced akmod build. This worked without problems. So - perhaps due to the microcode reworkings - the build that should have been triggered during boot failed.

    Re: Nvidia driver don't boot with kernel-3.17.0-301.fc21.x86_64

    Ok and thank Silarn, I remove the akmod for 3.17.0-301.fc21.x86_64 and rebuild with akmods force :
    Code:
    akmods --force --kernels 3.17.0-301.fc21.x86_64
    That rebuild the kmod and now all work fine.
    Thank again.

    Sorry, just saw the reply. Glad you got it working. If this issue continues after the next kernel update, it's probably due for a bug report.
