Pinnacle PCTV

I'm trying to solve this problem for a long time.
I now based my config on this tutorial: http://www.nikosoft.net/howtos/pinnacle.php

I have a Pinncale Studio PCTV
(and i'd like to use it to look tv)

my system specs: 2.4.22-1.2149.nptl i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
Abit NF7-s (with nforce2 chipset)
AMD 2000+

Now i added these lines into my modules.conf
[code:1]alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 bttv
post-install bttv modprobe -k tuner; modprobe -k videodev
options i2c scan=1 verbose=1 i2c_debug=0
options bttv
options tuner debug=0 pll=1[/code:1]

(i didn't compile the separate bttv drivers because I have it as a module in my kernel)
(all the i2c modules are compiled)

when I try to modprobe bttv:
Quote:
[root@10-4-165-196 root]# modprobe bttv
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2149.nptl/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2149.nptl/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2149.nptl/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2149.nptl/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: insmod bttv failed
So it seems It cannot detect my card.
dmesg returns :
Quote:
i2c-algo-bit.o: i2c bit algorithm module
bttv: driver version 0.7.107 loaded
bttv: using 4 buffers with 2080k (8320k total) for capture

I hope someone can help...

Thanks

lspci shows that your card is not being detected properly. Your best bet is to dig through the documentation at /usr/src/linux*/Documentation/video4linux/bttv for useful tips and clues to get things working. Of special interest would be the "Insmod-options" file which contains descriptions of options you can add to the /etc/modules.conf file when you load the modules.
Try running lspci with the -vv options to get a more detailed report of what might be going on.
Another thing you should try is adding the option for your card number. Eg.:
[code:1]
options bttv card=59
[/code:1]

You can get your card number from the CARDLIST file. (Yours would be either 39,52, or 94 depending on the model).

There's also a Red Hat specific mailinglist for video4linux you may find helpful at
http://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/video4linux-list

Finally if all else fails, consider filing a bug report at http://bugzilla.redhat.com and make sure to include your exact card model and the output as `lspci -vv` as an attachment.

HTH.[

Hi!

Although I'm new here, I must tell you I had 2 problems with my Pinnacle PCTV Stereo tv tuner:

1st: I had to update the "udev" because my tuner was not detected (I also understood this was a FC3 final release problem)
2nd: I had to add "options tda9887 qss=0" to /etc/modprobe.conf to get the sound working!

Maybe I'am tired but what kind of PCTV from Pinnacle do you have (I mean the chipset)?
