I am an idiot

Well of course, while trying to create a dvd link in /dev i accidently removed the device file for a disk that is mounted. Everything is ok right now but I need to find out how to create the block device file, I am not sure that I could just reboot and hope that it will come right back. Any one have any ideas?

I've done that before... had to use mknod

mknod -b NAME TYPE

which i'm not too sure about heh ..lots of info in man mknod though

EDIT....was /dev/dvd just a symlink to /dev/hdc or whatever?? If so, just recreate that link with ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd

Solution to I am an idiot

I was finally able to figure it out I remembered that the command was mknod I did a listing of all the disks
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 0 Dec 11 16:49 /dev/hda
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 1 Dec 11 16:49 /dev/hda1
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 2 Dec 11 16:49 /dev/hda2
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 3 Dec 11 16:49 /dev/hda3
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 5 Dec 11 16:49 /dev/hda5
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 6 Dec 11 16:49 /dev/hda6
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 7 Dec 11 16:49 /dev/hda7
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 8 Dec 11 16:49 /dev/hda8
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 9 Dec 11 16:49 /dev/hda9
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 64 Dec 11 16:49 /dev/hdb
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 22, 1 Dec 11 16:49 /dev/hdc1
br-xr-xr-x 1 root disk 22, 64 Dec 11 16:49 /dev/hdd

then I figured that I try mknod /dev/hdc b 22 0

that worked fine, that goes to show that no matter how much experience you have with something, there is always ways to screw it up.
