Smile photo printer suggestions

Hi all,

I'm currently looking at replacing my HP 934C with something a little newer.

I'm looking for suggestions for a high-end photo printer. (Inkjet I'm guessing)

I don't need anything fancy as far as having the ability to upload the photos from my digital media directly into the printer. (That’s why I have a computer ) I just want to print my digital photographs on high-gloss paper.

I also print documents (black ink) from time to time. So it doesn't have to be just a Photo Printer. Having a network interface "would" be nice however it's not a necessity.

I tend to lean towards HP printers personally however I'm opened to other suggestions. Please post your comments/experiences with the printer(s) and possible links where I can read some good reviews or even the best place to buy. (I'm in Canada)

Thanks
-JG

I would start with http://linuxprinting.org. You can find out there which printers are compatible with Linux. I have an older HP 1218, and it prints great photos on photo pater with FC2.

I would start here: http://www.linuxprinting.org/suggested.html

I have had good luck with Epson printers on FC2 although I have not had the chance to try an Epson on FC3.

I would stick with HP. For me they have made some very high quality stuff. No great deals now, but every once in a while overstock.com will have a good deal on a printer. I just got an 110d business inkjet. Has a duplexing unit, 22ppm black, 18ppm color for 80 dollars with ink cartridges and a usb cable. It is one of the sweetest printers I have ever had. I also have a g85, multifunction which I love. I have a deskjet 722c and 800 series. So in the end, I have never been dissapointed by hp.

That's what I'm planning on doing.. staying with HP, however they have soooo many out there now that it's becoming difilcult to find the "right" one.

I am getting ready to dump my Epson Stylus ...and dust off on of my old HP deskjets (540, 820)
The printer worked well for a year, now it leaks ink, smudges paper and generally is a pain...
It is somewhat better in windows than in Linux but not by much....arrrgh.

So HP it is then ...I want to get a laser printer, but too expensive

I suggest a Canon printer. I have an i560 and use the BJC7400 driver in linux and it runs great. The software for Windows is outstanding. You even can go into the set up and tell the printer to run in quiet mode and you can barley here it. Also it has the ability to print the web page on a sheet of paper so you don't have any run offs on the sides like some printers. Another thing I love and this is from a logistics point of view. Ink cartridges run between $8 to $15 and they are four seperate colors vice that tri-ink tank crap. Does a nice job for pictures. I use to have HP printers until the price of the ink exceeded the cost of the printer. It has alot of options so go check it out.

I am pretty pleased with my Canon S520 now that I have it set up properly. It's nice to have one ink cartrige per color so you don't have to throw away a full yellow when cyan runs out.

My wife does alot of printing. She has an HP CP1700 with four seperate ink cartridges. When she replaces all four it costs her $120.00. If she was to replace all the print heads as well as the ink it would cost her $240.00. As you can see HP loves their ink and heads.

Hp

I really like HP's as photo printers. I would use any of the photosmart series printers that you can afford. Great quality print-outs and great support on Linux. I really like my photosmart 7660.
