Something strange happening.....
I recently upgraded from Red Hat 9 to FC3. The upgrade seemed to go smoothly, but now I am noticing applications that used to work, don't seem to work any more. I can't X11 forward through ssh anymore even after following all online advice (-X -Y, setting ForwardX11 in ssh_config, etc), SCP doesn't work. I am having several other bizarre things happening, but browser and email work fine.
Firewall settings seem to be okay. The only odd ball seems to be SELinux. From what I can tell, it looks like SELinux isn't installed (I don't remember being asked during the upgrade). I don't have a /etc/selinux directory or a /etc/sysconfig/selinux file, but I have some selinux related executables. Also, when I bring up the security panel all options in the selinux tab are disabled and greyed out. Does that mean it isn't installed, or did I get a bad install?
The release notes don't seem to indicate any changes in the networking area. Any one else have any bizarre networking issues with FC3? Can SELinux be involved without those files (/etc/sysconfig/selinux, /etc/selinux)?
Thanks

Likewise, I have the same problem. Upgraded RH9 --> FC1 --> FC2 -- FC3.
FC1 was very good. I ran it for about a year, with no problems. Now I have two:
1. there is not /etc/selinux. However, the kernel appears to be enforcing policy, because I only have 22, 25, 53, and 80 open. I can't access POP or IMAP, even though the firewall is open. Which rpm should I re-install to get /etc/selinux?
2. At FC2 my GUI died. Was hoping that FC3 would fix it, but no luck. Since some of the SELinux tools appear to be GUI only, I need this fixed. I saw something about reinstalling Ximian Gnome, but I wasn't aware I had Ximian (unless it was installed by Redhat originally).

Item 1:
yum install selinux-policy-targeted
Now I guess, I'll see if that fixes anything.

Spent all day trying to get X to work with a PS/2 mouse. Even updated BIOS (Dell PowerEdge 600SC vA08 --> A09), without luck.
Apparently PS/2 mice don't work reliably with FC3, so that was killing X. Bought a USB mouse, reconfigured xorg.conf to make it the Core Pointer, and now X comes up.
But I don't have all the nice goodies in the gnome panel (control panels, etc.). Need to figure out how I get them to show up

Did not fix anything. I still only have a few ports (22, 25, 53, 80) open. Firewall is unchanged from before, so there's still something in the way.

X-forwarding is now disabled by default for both SSH and SSHD. You can initiate it from the client side by using the "-X" or the "-Y" command-line flags, and for the server side you'll need to modify the config file. Change
to
I actually do not recommend changing the server config, unless you absolute have to (like using an SSH client that doesn't support -X and/or -Y).

don't want X forwarding. But I do want my POP (110) streaming (554) and a few others. The firewall rules allow this, but I can't get in.
[root@white ~]# service dovecot start
Starting Dovecot Imap: [ OK ]
[root@white ~]# telnet localhost 110 not a USB mouse then
Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
This is the perplexing thing.
