Testing Software - Then Upgrade to Stable?

Let's say someone installs an rpm from the testing section of an ftp site..... once the stable version of the software is released, and you run yum, are you upgraded to the stable version, or the newer testing version.

I ask this because i'm using a testing NVIDIA driver, (from livna) and im not sure what to do when a stable version is released. If someone could provide me with the steps necessary to install a stable driver, once released. (I'm only using the testing driver because it's the only one you can get for FC3)

It depends on if that driver was updated in the repository. If you know the rpm name, you can do 'rpm -q <rpmname>' to see what version of an rpm you're running.

I'm assuming just

yum update kernel-module-nvidia-`uname -r`

Yum should decide the version by itself. It is not likely that this will be a problem, however, because when it gets moved to stable there is still only one valid driver for your kernel version.

You could use apt if yum fails. Or failing all else you could download the rpm and install it manually.
