How to remove Xfce?

I have Xfce installed as an extra desktop in F18 (now F19) and now wish to remove it but "yum groupremove xfce-dexktop" doesn't think it exists.

Does anyone have any ideas how else I can get rid of xfce?

Re: How to remove Xfce?

Try this

Code:
yum groups remove "Xfce Desktop"
Alternatively,

Code:
yum remove xfce*
If you using the latter, pay close attention to what yum wants to remove.

Result same as using "yum groupremove xfce-dexktop"
Code:
Loaded plugins: auto-update-debuginfo, fastestmirror, langpacks, refresh-packagekit
There is no installed groups file.

No environment named Xfce Desktop exists
No group named Xfce Desktop exists
No packages to remove from groups

That worked - thanks for the quick response.

If you’d installed Xfce (via a group install) from within F19, then the groupremove command would work as expected. However, if Xfce was already installed when you upgraded, it’s a good job that the command failed! Before F19, group installs didn’t track what packages were installed, so group removals remove everything in the group. In the case of desktop environments, that can include everything from X upward, leaving you without any desktop at all…

Re: How to remove Xfce?

I had assumed that it would check to see if the packages were still required by anything else and retain those that are - obviously not.

I think I installed using "yum install @xfce" which I assume works out the same as "yum groupinstall", so often I install things and get them working and then a few months down the line I have forgotten just how I did.
