You can use the free Fluendo mp3 codec pack. Or you will need to enable rpmFusion Free and NonFree.

RpmFusion repos have the packages you need

Re: Fedora 18 installing MPEG-4 AAC decoder plugin

    Hallo
run the following two commands in a console:

    su -c 'yum localinstall -y --nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/...-18.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfr...-18.noarch.rpm'

    su -c 'yum -y install gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-ffmpeg vlc'

This will install the needed decoders. May you have to enter the root password.

Re: Fedora 18 installing MPEG-4 AAC decoder plugin

Some applications on Fedora 18 now use the gstreamer1 packages instead of the gstreamer packages.

    What I do is this

    Code:
    yum install gstreamer* --exclude=*devel,*doc
That gets all of the gstreamer and gstreamer1 packages.

vlc doesn't need them, it uses it's own codecs.

Had to skip broken to get this too work.

    Code:
    yum install gstreamer* --exclude=*devel,*doc --skip-broken
