    ~/.mailrc changes

well, believe it or not, I have another question

when I use the 'mail' command, my system looks at /var/spool/mail/user1 to find the mail. However, I've configured postfix and dovecot to ~/Maildir

now can I create .mailrc in my user's profile to have mail look in the new directory?

    thanks again!

for who this might quickly help, here's what I put in .mailrc ...it worked

    : -==x==x=(0)=x==x==- : cat .mailrc
    set MAIL=/home/user1/Maildir

    set folder=mail

    Re: ~/.mailrc changes

AFAIK 'mail' and 'mailx' cannot handle maildir formats, only MBOX (better check that).
This is where you'd want dovecot feeding those flies via pop3 or imap to modern client like
    thunderbird or evolution.

MBOX files are very fragile - one inserted character or lost block and you have a problem.

What do you know ... mail/mailx can do maldir

    Code:
folder (fold) The folder command switches to a new mail file or folder. With no arguments, it
tells the user which file he is currently reading. If an argument is given, it will
write out changes (such as deletions) the user has made in the current file and read in
the new file. Some special conventions are recognized for the name. # means the previ‐
ous file, % means the invoking user's system mailbox, %user means user's system mailbox,
& means the invoking user's mbox file, and +file means a file in the folder directory.
%:filespec expands to the same value as filespec, but the file is handled as a system
mailbox e. g. by the mbox and save commands. If the name matches one of the strings
defined with the shortcut command, it is replaced by its long form and expanded. If the
name ends with .gz or .bz2, it is treated as compressed with gzip(1) or bzip2(1),
respectively. Likewise, if name does not exist, but either name.gz or name.bz2 exists,
the compressed file is used. If name refers to a directory with the subdirectories
`tmp', `new', and `cur', it is treated as a folder in maildir format. A name of the
                  form
