Evolution Mail IMAP Authentication Refused, HELP PLEASE

It appears that the mail client is communicating with the host, but the
connection is being rejected

This is the required settings

The configuration on your e-mail client should be set to use:

* IMAP Server: mail.ec.auckland.ac.nz
* SMTP Sever: mailhost.auckland.ac.nz
* SSL: Enabled (both on IMAP and SMTP)
* UserName: NetID
* Password: NetPassword
* NOTE:If you are using a Windows based client (e.g. Outlook,
Outlook express) do NOT check 'Secure Password Authentication' .

Steps to reproduce the problem:

1. The account settings are:
Server Type: IMAP
Host: mail.ec.auckland.ac.nz
Username: gjam015
Use SSL: Whenever Possible
Authentication Type: Password

2. Check for Supported Types .... results in error ....
Error while Checking Service.
Could not connect to mail.ec.auckland.ac.nz (port imap):
Connection refused

Actual Results:
Unable to browse and use IMAP folders

Expected Results:
Browse and use IMAP mail folders

How often does this happen?
Constantly happens all queries to IMAP server.

Additional Information:
Identical configuration with outlook on windows desktop working ok.

------- Additional Comments From Gerardo Marin 2004-12-03 15:00 -------

> do NOT check 'Secure Password Authentication' .
> Use SSL: Whenever Possible
Then DO NOT check "Whenever possible" and change to "Never"

--------

** Obtained my first authentication with the IMAP server!
** Entered and saved password (after initial incorrect password) and then appeared normal start-up, without error.
** Subscribed to all IMAP folders, but was then unable to browse?
** Then back to Connection refused errors?
** Cycled system a few times but same problem, I’m guessing configuration settings but don't have the kb to resolve?

Distribution: Fedora Core release 3 (Heidelberg)
Package: Evolution

Version: GNOME2.8.0 unspecified

Bugzilla-Product: Evolution

Description of Problem:

Help appreciated please, configuration and diagnostic steps for SSL connection and Port 993 would be ideal, I think?

Hi, not absolutely sure that the configured authentication is correct

My authentication Type options are only 'Password', 'NTLM/SPA', 'GSSAPI', 'DIGEST-MD5', 'CRAM-MD5'

Using 'Password' the host has accepted my connection and presented password window once, have tested all of the above, this occurded when I changed Use Secure Connection SSL to 'Never'!?

I'm fairly sure the IMAP host requires SSL connections on 993, it is configured so on other mail clients and working ok?

Please can anyone help with the diagnostic steps for IMAP SSL authentication?

It seems very unstable in this mail client?

Can anyone suggest a more stable mail client?
