Linux System Information Script

Hey Guys and Girls

I have been writing a little system script and have finally got to a point where i want to release it to you all:
The script pulls system info and displays it in the terminal, checks for Desktop Enviroment, resolution, memory, top process, user, uptime etc

Uploaded it to my own site so i can see how many downloads it gets:
Download Here: http://www.haggistec...ats-V1.0.tar.gz
screenshot here http://www.haggistech.co.uk/ss/stats-V1.0.png

Thanks

please feel free to download it and let others know about it

Re: Linux System Script

Haggis, I've adjusted the thread to details we've discussed. The script's been reviewed and is in no way 'suspect', however everyone should be cautious when installing or using non-repository packages.

Thanks for sharing it with us!

If you attach it here you also have the view counts for the file. Just saying.

Re: Linux System Information Script

I downloaded it and looked through it, and it seems to be a fairly useful script to get basic system information, and there is even the code in there to save it to a .png file with just a slight modification to actually run the code.

I do wish to expand upon bob's "disclaimer" and point out that the script was reviewed as it was when the original post was created The contents of the script could change at any time, so please, look through it yourself before running it, as you should do with any and all scripts.

Re: Linux System Information Script

yeah agreed check the script over for your own piece of mind

yeah i had started out with the Scrrenshot bit in there then commented it out

i will add in a readme file and maybe put in there to uncomment the lines if you wants it

the reason i commented it out is import the command used for screenshot does not work on some debian systems

Re: Linux System Information Script

I did noticed that the screenshot does exactly that

It will save a file with a shot of everything displayed on your screen. So, if you run the script in a terminal window, what you get isn't a shot of just the current window, you get whatever you see on your screen. Your entire desktop.

Re: Linux System Information Script

Yeah there must be a switch to do current window only but the idea to start with when i first started was so that people could do screenshots of the desktop with the system info in it

I only started using linux 100% in March so still learning a lot lol

That's indeed impressive.

Here is mine under openSUSE. A pic of a geeko would be nicer. Ah, I just see that only Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Debian will get their own logos.
