Re: Firefox does not work

Start firefox from a terminal and see what if any output it shows.

Post he output if you are not sure about what it means.

You can also try starting firefox in safe mode, to eliminate as many variables as you can to assist with solving the issue.

Re: Firefox does not work

I've noticed that occasionally Firefox will crash in such a bad way as to corrupt the file system buffered libraries. This is why you can restart Firefox after a crash and it will immediately crash anyway (at least that's' my theory because I'm not sure why restarting Firefox would otherwise crash right off but reboot fixes it). The only way to fix this kind of crash is to reboot (thus getting a fresh load of shared libraries from the disk) or flush the disk buffer via:

sync && echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches

and then restart Firefox. Since the kernel file buffer is now empty it has to get xulrunner.so and other libs it needs from the disk again.

Re: Firefox does not work

Ok, here what I have tried as a way to start Firefox in a terminal. Not sure if this is the way to do so. Thanks.

Code:
[root@localhost john]# /usr/bin/firefox

(firefox:1939): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
None of the authentication protocols specified are supported.
/usr/lib/firefox/firefox: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xulrunner/libxul.so: undefined symbol: PR_SetCurrentThreadName

[root@localhost john]# firefox

(firefox:1959): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
None of the authentication protocols specified are supported.
/usr/lib/firefox/firefox: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xulrunner/libxul.so: undefined symbol: PR_SetCurrentThreadName
[root@localhost john]#

Is there a reason you're running that as root? It would be better to run it as "john" user. Running GUI apps as root can cause various weird issues that would confuse your testing (like the session manager problem is caused by running as root without using "su -" )
