First, I know this will sound stupid - so please do not take this the wrong way, I just want to make sure I wasn't misunderstood - if your username was ftpuser then the password command would be:

passwd ftpuser

not

passwd <ftpuser>

Now that that is out of the way... It looks like your user did not get created. As root take a look at /etc/passwd to see if your user is listed in it. A quick way to do this would be to do:

cat /etc/password

your user should be listed near the end of the file.

If you are having trouble with addusr at the command line, you can also try the graphical user and group tool in the Systems Settings section of the pannel menu, just make sure to set the ftp users login shell to /sbin/nologin.

To connect to your ftp server via a web browser just type

ftp://<username>:<password>@<server ip>

in the address bar

Oh why I cannot connect by the IE?
Why I use command useradd have an error >This account is current not available
Anyone help?

Thx Scoob,

I use my ftpuser not <.. >
I input the commands and see that ftpuser is at the end of the file.
So I try again ftp localhost
>ftpuser
->password
530 Login incorrect!

So I try GUI, it works!
I think I cannot use my LAN to test my ftp use IE. So I encount problems is is ok now.
PS: why the command one cannot do so?

After update to vsftpd 2.0.1-5
I get error A message which cause I cannot use vsftp

vsftpd dead but subsys locked
