[solved]Fedora 17 Xfce theme crushing
Hi, I am new to Fedora. I am just wondering what should I do if the default theme failed to start. I know it sounds a bit ambiguous so I took a screenshot of the situation. *Please note the theme in my pic. *I need help in restoring to the default theme

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
Where's the pic?
Open Menu>Settings>Appearance and see if you can change themes there.

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
Sorry, I thought you were saying the issue was fixed.
That what happened is the window manager that crashed.
Run
Then after it's ok, open Menu>Settings>Session and Startup go to Session tab and click on Save Session.

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
Try installing Xfce 4.10?
See this link: http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/kevin/xfce-4.10/
If you download the repo information and add it to your /etc/yum.repos.d directory, you can then use "yum update" to install Xfce 4.10. I have found it to be much better than 4.08.
I can't say for sure that it would fix your problem, but it might. Plus, it has some new features such as the ability to rotate desktop wallpapers that are nice.

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
created xfce.repo in /etc/yum.repos.d
Code:
[xfce]
name=xfce
baseurl=http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/kevin/xfce-4.10/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
run yum update in the terminal
Code:
root@localhost mr-fool]# http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/kevin/xfce-4.10/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] HTTP Error 404 - Not Found : http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/kevin/xfce-4.10/repodata/repomd.xml

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
Code:
# Place this file in your /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory
[fedora-xfce-4.10]
name=Xfce 4.10 for Fedora
baseurl=http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/kevin/xfce-4.10/fedora-$releasever/$basearch
enabled=1
skip_if_unavailable=1
gpgcheck=0
If you look at this version and compare with what you posted, you will see that they are different. Yours is missing the release and architecture information on the baseurl line. This version is the .repo file that is on the page to which I sent the link.
Please try again with the correct fedora-xfce-4.10.repo information. I think you will find that it works okay.

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
then I tried yum install xfce
Code:
[root@localhost mr-fool]# yum install xfce
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
* fedora: mirror.web-ster.com
* rpmfusion-free: mirror.web-ster.com
* rpmfusion-free-updates: mirror.web-ster.com
* rpmfusion-nonfree: mirror.web-ster.com
* rpmfusion-nonfree-updates: mirror.web-ster.com
* updates: fedora.mirror.nexicom.net
No package xfce available.
Error: Nothing to do

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
The xfce4-places-plugin is a known problem that has been fixed, see http://lists.fedoraproject.org/piper...er/001504.html . Your mirror probably hasn't caught up yet. Leave it a little while and try again.

Although let's not a really scientific answer, I will give it a try.

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
Just do as suggested by yum:
yum upgrade --skip-broken
