Howto gang two sound card outputs together

Hi
I have two sound cards on this computer, I'm trying to set pulseaudio to output to both at the same time.
I've tried with PAprefs but not having any success.
if there a preferred way of doing this?

ie so what ever application is using sound the output audio is routed to both cards at the same time.

Thanks

Re: Howto gang two sound card outputs together

linux audio is still a little behind. alsa can only support one output/ input device at any given time. it is possible to split outputs if you were to say use one card through pulse and a second via jack.
I read somewhere.......maybe on wiki?? but if both cards are of the same type then it may be possible to write a dummy driver that fools alsa into thinking the 2 cars are actually one but for the life of me i cant find that article right now.

Re: Howto gang two sound card outputs together

Well I've managed to get simultaneous output from both cards, there seems to be a dependency on Pavolume control, even though its already there on the audio settings.

The problem I have now is where on FC17 is the order of multiple sound devices set ?
It used to be in /etc/modprobe.d/, but where now ????

Re: Howto gang two sound card outputs together

multiple outputs has been supported for quite a long time in linux.

Have you looked at the pulseaudio wiki on freedesktop.org? There is a whole section on multiple outputs.

Re: Howto gang two sound card outputs together

Thanks its a useful FAQ, BUT, as I found from my previous post the automatic function wont work unless the PA volume control is installed.
I'll close this thread .
