Apple won again, now at court!
For a long time apple has been doing great presentations about their products to the media and selling their overpriced products in a big way and billions of people believed it, why would these jurors have to be any different?
Apple did a great job making the jurors believe that rectangles with rounded corners are covered by their patents and many more. When will people stop believing in every crap that's been fed to them?
The verdict just questions the basis of reasoning and decision making by ordinary man.
How shall free-software win against marketing monopolies like apple is a mystery.

Microsoft is happy, Why wouldn't they?

Re: Apple won again, now at court!
That verdict just cemented my (in)decision on getting me a new phone. I had been debating on one of the Samsung Galaxy 4G phones, and now after seeing that article, I have made up my mind. I am going to get me the phone.
Apple can flush themselves down the toilet, I'm getting me a Samsung

Got my Galaxy Nexus in June, and, am very happy with it. The S3 has improvenments with battery life, from what I hear, so either would be a winning purchase. I'm glad I got the Nexus though, great smart phone.

And the jury went home with a complimentary ipad...
I hate to be a cynic but I wonder how much nepotism was involved, seeing Samsung is a Korean company and Apple home-grown?
I've vowed never to buy Apple again, I got rid of the Mac Mini I foolishly bought.

Re: Apple won again, now at court!
the verdict that came up in korea was baffling banning both the company's products.

I was expecting that software patents would be abolished, but it looks like its not likely to happen anytime soon.

Re: Apple won again, now at court!
I had the same thought, Wayne.
When it was in the Korean courts, the verdicts were more in favor of Samsung, but here in the US with easily bought courts, it favored Apple.
I don't see anything close enough between the two of them to be considered patent infringement, myself.

Re: Apple won again, now at court!
Hopefully more people make a statement and also make their next purchase a Samsung, if they're in the hunt.
I already had the "never gonna buy an Apple product again" mentality and now it's firmly cemented.

Re: Apple won again, now at court!
I think my next Android tablet is going to be a Samsung. Was thinking about the Google Nexus 7 but in light of recent events... Anyway, the Nexus is made by Asus and I already have an Asus 10" tablet....

I am not going to buy anything from a company which glues it parts to one another in the name of innovation.
Never was an apple fan - now all the more *against*!

Re: Apple won again, now at court!
I'm sure we've seen this all before: A company abusing their position in the industry to monopolise a market and stifling competition and innovation with litigation. Perhaps microsoft should sue apple for stealing their idea! What with Jobs gone, the only future apple has is with the courts. I can't see anything with the "Wow factor" coming from Cupertino any more... I remember ways back when people were hoping apple would come back from near death to compete with MS. You should be careful what you wish for!

Re: Apple won again, now at court!
Well I made the switch to Linux back in the Redhat 7 days.
Mainly because I didn't want to disinfect Windows computers all the time, AND Apple was way expensive here in New Zealand.
Here's an example of how much a NZ New old model iPad costs
The New Apple iPad 16GB Wi-Fi Black
Now $ 725.00
ON SALE save $4 !
I'm pretty sure it will be the iPad2.
So I haven't even considered Apple products.
I got a Nextbook 8se tablet in May. I could have got two of these for less than the iPad above.
It runs Android 4 but was limited to the manufacturer's apps store.
However the supplier just got an updated OS with Google play enabled. For the price of an SD card I was able to update this wee beast to Android ICS WITH Google Play enabled.
What does this have to do with anything?
I voted 12 years ago, open source or Linux derivatives wherever possible.
Just my 2c worth

Re: Apple won again, now at court!
Time after time I always felt apple products are overpriced. Design wise, I would say Macbook Air is good comparing the competition. But other products are mostly sold through marketing muscle, including the most worshipped Iphones, Ipads.

Re: Apple won again, now at court!
Bad as the result of this court case is, in a grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter, Apple has already lost the phone wars big time:
Quote:
Apple’s Smartphone Share in China Nearly Halves
Apple Inc.’s smartphone market share in China almost halved in the second quarter as Chinese seller such as Lenovo Group Ltd. and ZTE Corp. gained ground, according to research group IDC Friday.
Apple’s market share fell to 10% in the second quarter from 19%, but IDC analyst T. Z. Wong told Dow Jones Newswires in a telephone interview Friday that the fall is mostly a result of consumers waiting for the launch of its newest iPhone this fall.
Apple is facing intensified competition from high-end smartphone vendors like Samsung Electronics Co., which took the No. 1 position with a 19% share, Mr. Wong added.
...
For the first time in China, smartphone sales eclipsed sales of feature phones. There were 44.4 million smartphones sold in the second quarter for a 51% market share, according to IDC.

Although they speculate part of the fall was for people waiting for next iPhone this autumn, I very much doubt offering more of the same will make any difference.
