fresh install of Fedora 17

I am planning on installing Fedora 17 on my desktop.
I am currently running Fedora 14. F14 is on drive /dev/sdb.
I want to install F17 on the first partition on drive /dev/sda and install grub in the first sector on that drive.
Right now grub from fedora 14 is on the first sector of /dev/sda.
I am hoping that if I copy the list from grub.conf and add the lines that boot F14 to F17's grub.conf that I will still be able to boot into F14.

With Gnome 3 it may take me a while to get F17 set up the way I want it.

Thanks In Advance!

Terry

Fedora 17 will install GRUB 2. The config file for it is named grub.cfg and has different syntax from Fedora 14's grub.conf. So you won't be able to copy from Fedora 14's grub.conf to Fedora 17's grub.cfg. Actually, though some people do it, direct editing of grub.cfg is not intended or encouraged. It is created and re-created by scripts run by the grub2-mkconfig command. Anyway, there is a good chance, at least, that Fedora 17's GRUB 2 will find Fedora 14 and add it to the new Fedora 17 boot menu. If it doesn't though, there still will be ways to get it in there.

To add to what stoat has about grub 2 - this tutorial - http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/grub-2.html - on grub2 is something I have found very helpful.

Re: fresh install of Fedora 17

When I installed F16, also using grub2, it found and included my F12 install on another hdd in the new grub2 menu no problem. It also found and included my W7 and W2K installs.
