Fedora 17 - LiveCD problem

Hello,

I wanted to find the cause to this problem:

But I ended up with a new one!

Problem: downloaded three FC 17 Live CDs: KDE, Desktop and XFCE. ALL distros FAIL to load the 'X' after one process or the other.

Then I downloaded FC 16 Live KDE & XFCE. Both versions work pretty well. It looks like entire FC 17 branch has this 'X' problem w.r.t my PC Hardware.

As for the problem mentioned in the above URL, Network card works very well on this FC 16. This also proves the strange GRUB behavior in FC 17 w.r.t the Network card issue. Here's the addition info:

I don't know when the 'X problem in the 17 branch would be fixed. Perhaps, we need to wait until 18 release

What kind of graphics chip do you have?

Try to remove rhgb and quiet from the boot options and tell us the error message.

Apparently, FC 16 works without any problem. But I don't know if this issue with FC 17 resolved or not. I'll post FC 17 dmesg if it's required. Please suggest

Fedora 17 might require more than 512 MiB of memory ;-)

Not really. I run more 100 machines with different Linux distros (mostly Fedora). Plus, FC 16 'XFCE' ran without any problem with same memory so why not FC 17 (ignoring KDE/Gnome/default signs)? This machine I can't retire (Mom's) so I'm putting it to best use on the LAN. I'll check with FC 17 and get back to you.

The Fedora 17 LiveCD doesn't have any swap space.

You should be able to install Fedora 17 from the DVD (in text mode) and you might be able to manually add a swap partition before the installation begins.
