F16 - Nvidia driver with CCRMA RT Kernel

Hey all,

I have an Nvidia 7800 GT OC, and I have a dilemma. I want to use both of my monitors with the RT kernel, but no matter what guide or tip I follow, I can't get the nvidia driver to load with the RT kernel from the CCRMA repo.

Today I found a guide on the forums here, noting that it is possible to get Nvidia drivers working on the RT kernel. The thing is, this thread is from 2010, around the F12 time I believe. F16, I've heard, has had some kmod-nvidia / akmod issues.

I thought these "issues" had been fixed. The thing I don't understand is that the CCRMA kernel is built from 3.0.17. Isn't this really outdated? And, it makes sense to me, the kmod-nvida/akmod-nvidia available currently won't work for 3.0.17, but only 3.3/3.4+ (around the time kmod-nvidia was actually fixed for F16, as per people saying), as that's the version of their package.

I followed the guide above exactly, installing akmod-nvidia and kernel-rt + kernel-rt-devel after installing akmod-nvidia and the xorg nvidia driver from rpmfusion. It gave a black screen on booting the RT kernel.

My desktop, I've known, sometimes gets fussy, so I have to add combinations of nomodeset, acpi=off, noapic, and vga=0x318 to the boot options to try to get it to run (not including rdblacklist=nouveau and nouveau.modeset=0 which has stayed in my /etc/default/grub to be added to the grub config for every new kernel). In this case, only acpi=off gets it to show any output and then load the boot console and start booting. Except, it halts saying "Started Display Manager", and never loads X.

I then decided to try the official proprietary driver, but ended up with the same results. (backed up my xorg.conf of course)

I am now using the proprietary driver with my default 3.4.7 kernel, awaiting anybody's opinion. I'd love to get started making music. I've waited my entire life, really...

Anyways, let me know if you have any ideas. I am lost on how to fix the halting at "Started Display Manager".

I have an eMachines T5212 with a 430 Watt Antec power supply (it does the job, has balanced rails)

Here's my xorg.conf.
