Discussion/Question: FedoraForum Search

I was going to PM an admin and then thought I would throw this into the open for a full user input.

We do chastise new user for not searching through this forum before asking questions. It was not until tonight, when one users complained that they had tried searching for a common problem, and could not find an answer to it that I had a quick search.

The default search "Google Custom Search" sorts by Date. I had not even noticed before that you can change it. If you search for "Fedora 17 nvidia" or similar the Fedora 17 nvidia guide is nowhere to be seen (checked first four pages and got bored). If you change to "filter by relevance" the guide is on the first page.

So, the short question is: Can we / should we change the default search to filter by relavance.

The date/relevance option is fairly recent - at least as far as I know - See here.

I have had pretty good luck with respect to using the google search but not the advanced search. I think it is nice to have the option for date/relevance - as for default, I think relevance might be more appropriate ...

If a new user is lost already, it would make more sense to give him search results based on relevance. Hopefully, an experienced user knows he can change the sort criteria. How do we get that changed?

It's a fancy dropdown menu on the right top corner - where the results start!

Re: Discussion/Question: FedoraForum Search

I'm sure I or Dan or both of us made a tutorial aeons ago about adding a Fedora Forum search engine plugin for Firefox. I notice it has disappeared from my current install! Probably worth digging up again, if it works with current Firefox browsers.

It actually involves me as it's my custom search, fixed.

I had a feeling it might do, but did not wish to presume. Thanks.
