cups seems to come and go

some weeks ago the printer configured itself leaving a neat little message to that effect

then during a yum update, I saw a cups update fly by

now after clicking on printer configuration, I get

There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'cups-authorization-canceled'.

when clicking on "new printer"

Once I bragged on the Fedora printer software

At one point when CUPS went to pot, one needed to enter the root password 3+ times.

Then there was a long drawn out procedure using stuff from HP...1000 steps

leaving many questions about what happened

Re: cups seems to come and go

I got it to work if I did NOT use the printer configuration program

(1) turn off printer or computer
(2) have usb cable plugged in
(3) power on printer or computer and wait

if stupid little message appears "printer may NOT be connected"

move to another USB port
