Smile Fedora 17 LXDE getting the javac function

Dear members of Fedora,

I have installed Fedora LXDE on my Acer eMachine E443. It's an AMD computer and most works fine. However, I was thinking of learning Java and then I need javac.

The problem is that the function is not there in the Terminal. I have searched the Internet but not found anything relevant to this edition of Fedora. I'm thinking of Fedora 17. The desktop environmental should, I think, not affect the ability to get javac to work.

I have found this thread (Link) but it is from 2010 and for Fedora version 12.

My key words are
Fedora, 17, javac, not found, install jdk, missing, terminal

and a combination of above.

DE does not affect being able to use java. Follow this instructions in this page to install java. I have usually not had problems ...

Hope this helps. Cheers.

Oh I forgot! If you want to use openJDK and not oracle Java,

Code:
yum install java-1.7.0-openjdk-devel.x86_64
Here is what I have in my installation

Code:
#javac -version
javac 1.7.0_03

Thank you nonamedotc! The reference to OpenJDK solved it. Let me first quote OpenJDK
Quote:
The java-1.7.0-openjdk package contains just the Java Runtime Environment. If you want to develop Java programs then install the java-1.7.0-openjdk-devel package.
For me, this line of code in the Terminal solved it for me.
Code:
sudo yum install java-1.7.0-openjdk-devel package
wait
# javac -version
javac 1.7.0_03
