Re: Dual boot
I'd download the DVD version, then install from that. After you get past the 'no floppy' issue (ignore it), and put in your language info, then you'll come to a screen that allows you to select upgrading your current Fedora installation. That should work fine for you.
As always, before you do anything, back up all your data from both Fedora and Windows. It's SUPPOSED to work flawlessly, but....

Re: Dual boot
There are still a lot of problems with F17 and booting.
It seems the developers have dropped the ball again.

Re: Dual boot
(moved to Installation)
That is true for many, but I didn't have any issues personally and it's a safe bet that it works for most people. And, since there are always workarounds to try, I'd sure rather jump to F17 than work with an EOL version like F15 (especially F15!).

Depends on the risk you choose to take. It is entirely possible that installing F17 directly will destroy the ability to boot windows. That has been reported several times, and one of the workarounds destroys the windows partition.
I don't yet trust grub v2 due to the numerous problems people are having with it - not installing, requiring repartitioning sometimes, destroying dual boot...
It all depends on the system. F17 seems to be going bad, slowly. Many things do work, and if you are not worried about preserving a pre-existing (non Fedora) system, it seems to work better.
The best workaround is to remove the system drive and put a new one in. That way you don't have to worry about the backup.

Re: Dual boot
Preupgrade ran fine on a WIN7, Fedora 15 system. The grub to grub2 conversion caused no problem.
Have to watch out for WIN7 now having a separate boot partition and the manufacturers restore partition when structuring the drive.
The preupgrade process makes the past practice of having a separate boot partition problematic. Running out of space on /boot can leave the system in limbo.
On a system with multiple OS having to use --force to install grub2 to the specific partition to be able to chain to the additional systems is a real pain as well as having the warning that the function is not going to be supported in the future. But working for now.
Multi OS system
Vista 64
Fedora 17
Centos 6.3
Centos 5.8
WIN8 Developer Preview

Re: Dual boot
I had F17 fail doing a preupgrade - it didn't support the partition definitions. The only way I had to upgrade was a full install and let it default the partitioning.
Worked - but it destroyed the partitions already existing. In my case, I only had F16 (preupgraded from F15, from F14).
I'm only testing F17 in a VM, so the loss wasn't terrible, though the home partition was destroyed.

Re: Dual boot
1. Don't upgrade - things will continue to work.
2. Full install - might loose things. Mostly configuration items, but if you don't have a separate /home filesystem (separate disk) you may loose it too.
Your choice. That is why I test it in a VM. If it works out, I may transfer that to one of my two root filesystems (I still have F14, the active root is F16). And I still use grub legacy as that works for me. All it takes is copying the kernel+initrd from /boot and adding a new option to the grub.conf file.
